We know this year’s holiday season will be a little different to other years, and while you may not be spending the holidays with all of your favourite people, we wanted to add a little bit of science sparkle to your at-home festivities with a series of videos to help you participate in some Fun and Festive Frolics.

These videos have been created to give you an opportunity to spend some time with your nearest and dearest, and to take some of the hassle out of having to plan how to keep yourselves amused and entertained during the holidays. We’ll be releasing a new video every few days, so keep checking back for more seasonal science!

Our Chief Science Elf, Dr Suze Kundu, has taken to her kitchen to talk you through some fun and festive experiments, including how to create beautiful chromatography Christmas decorations, how to make your own rock candy canes, how to craft an abundance of scientifically-accurate six-sided snowflakes, and of course, how to make your own season slime – now with added glitter!

We hope that you are able to enjoy the holidays during this ‘new normal’ and that, with the help of science, next year’s holiday season is a little more familiar. Perhaps our crafty creations will become a new tradition in your families for years to come!

In the lead up to Christmas, some of our resident experts will be donning their elf hats and sharing some of the science behind the most wonderful time of the year, from why science could support your decision to avoid Brussels sprouts, to exactly how much it would cost to lavish a bunch of strange gifts on your true love.

More tales you never knew about BioRAFT…CEO Nathan Watson is very into home DIY – his attention to construction safety always prevents any smashed fingers or toes. CTO Ben Benone ran a flying club at University and took his future wife on a flying date when they first met. His love of planes might be where he got so good at building safety inspection and training systems! To date, 158,740 lab safety and training courses have been run in BioRAFT.

More tales you never knew about ReadCube… the idea was born out of Harvard university, where the two founders devised the idea from their college dorm. Collectively the team has over 30 years of experience as research scientists under their belts!

More tales you never knew about Symplectic… the four founders, CEO, senior developer and VP of client support all met while studying at Imperial College London. Three of the current employees moved from Australia to London just to join the team, and every Monday the whole company cooks up a healthy lunch feast which they sit and eat together!
